Nonprofit Organization ColorStack Is Bridging The Gap Between Access And Opportunity For Underrepresented Populations In Tech

NEW YORK – Oct. 29, 2024:  ColorStack released the 2nd edition of their annual Impact Report on Tuesday, October 29th, 2024. ColorStack is a non-profit organization supporting over 11,000 Black and Latinx computer science students, helping them thrive in their academic and professional careers. According to the report, the organization’s ecosystem of community, programs, and resources is expanding access to opportunities that help underrepresented demographics graduate and launch successful careers in technology. 82% of members agree their confidence in computer science-related schoolwork has increased since joining ColorStack, and over 70% of members in the class of 2025 reported having an internship during the summer of 2024. ColorStack’s members are the future leaders of the tech industry, securing positions with tech giants such as IBM, Amazon Web Services, Accenture, Bloomberg, Apple, Wells Fargo, Oracle, Google, Microsoft, Procter & Gamble Company, Netflix, Dropbox and more. Increased diversity and representation in these spaces not only expands equity within technological innovation but also provides opportunities for economic mobility for Black and Latinx communities.

Research shows that diverse teams and leadership result in innovation as these individuals provide unique solutions based on their differing backgrounds. Despite this, only 3% of technology executives are represented by Black and Latinx individuals. With ColorStack’s growing impact within the tech industry, the organization will continue to scale its efforts until the workforce reflects the growing number of Black and Latinx young professionals aiming to enter the field.

How does ColorStack scale its solutions and support a community of computer science students nationwide? Through its robust and supportive Slack workspace, financial aid and scholarships to members, and access to ColorStack’s corporate partners through virtual and in-person events– these are just some of the exclusive resources and opportunities that 11,000+ members can utilize.

78% of members reported that Slack is one of the organization’s most valuable resources because the channel shares over 200 job opportunities monthly, and members support each other through resume reviews, schoolwork and coding assistance, and encouragement during hard times. Over half of their members reported an increase in confidence with technical interviewing, and 98% of their members are on track to graduate. For the first-generation students they serve, the resources and opportunities provided by ColorStack have changed their lives.

With in-person events across the country, and several held virtually every month – members network with university recruiters that partner with ColorStack. These partners of the company are leading the way in technology and recruiting their talent from ColorStack’s resume books, career fairs, and summits. With over 150 corporate partners, ColorStack is opening doors for career advancement for their members, while creating diverse teams that will go on to build accessible, equitable, and innovative products.

In addition to its community and programming, the organization is building an in-house open-source web application called Oyster. Many students deploy their first practical code contribution using this product, which provides real-world experience to young professionals building their portfolios. On the member profile side of Oyster, members can access all of the organization’s resources in one convenient place including company reviews, a member directory, and a resource database. With this platform, members can contribute to the app’s codebase, sharpening the skillsets that make them workforce-ready. Learn more about the organization and their services at ColorStack.org.
